It’s never too late for rosé

Summer is waning, but there’s plenty of time to drink some delicious dry rosés. Besides, who says you can’t drink a pink wine in cooler weather? (Lots of folks like to have a bottle or two of versatile rosé on the table at Thanksgiving, for example.) But stores that stock a good selection of rosé in summer often carry a much smaller inventory in the off-season. So if you’re interested in laying in a few bottles right now, here are three to look for.

From California, mostly the Central Coast, there’s the 2023 Birichino Vin Gris ($18), a blend of predominantly grenache with smaller amounts of mourvèdre, carignane, cinsault and vermentino. It’s fresh and juicy, with flavors of watermelon, cranberry and strawberry. I find the wine positively gulpable, but it would also make a nice pairing with shellfish or a salade Niçoise.

Another pretty California (Sonoma Coast) choice is the 2023 Rodney Strong Rosé of Pinot Noir ($20), which displays lively flavors of cherry, raspberry and a hint of cranberry. It’s very refreshing.

Or head to the Med for the 2023 Domaine Vetriccie Rosé “Île de Beauté” ($18) from Corsica. It’s a very pale pink blend, with mouthwatering cranberry, blood orange and watermelon flavors, accented by a dash of lemon, along with a persistent finish.
