Wine of the Week: Champagne Bollinger Special Cuvée Brut

2020 can’t be over soon enough, so I’m looking forward to ringing in 2021 with a special bottle of bubbles. If you’re looking to splurge a bit when you say good riddance to the past year, consider Champagne Bollinger’s non-vintage blend known as Special Cuvée.

At around $60, Special Cuvée is Bollinger’s least-expensive bottling, and it’s a good introduction to the family-run company’s house style. The Bollinger wines are based on pinot noir; this blend is 60 percent pinot noir, 25 percent chardonnay and 15 percent pinot meunier. The wine is full-bodied yet racy and very precise, with pretty red fruit, some toastiness and fine bubbles.

It’s a great bottle to savor as you say au revoir to 2020 and bienvenue to 2021.
