Pinot noir is my go-to wine for Thanksgiving dinner, but a good pinot can be quite expensive. If you’re on a budget this year, this outstanding $16 pinot is a godsend.
For those who haven’t heard of Cameron Hughes, it’s a negociant brand that sells wine under a series of lot numbers, like this Lot 729 pinot from Russian River Valley. Some of the wines used to be available at Costco, but now they’re sold only online at chwine.com. So if you’re interested for Thanksgiving, get your order in soon.
Some of the Cameron Hughes wines are better than others, but this one is a real winner, especially at this price. It’s structured and juicy, with red cherry and strawberry flavors and a forest floor note. Food should take the edge off the wine’s slightly drying finish.
