Russian River Valley has a reputation for top-notch pinot noirs – with top prices to match. Here are two that are in the mid-$30 range; one is often available for much less. Both would be great with grilled chicken or salmon.

   The 2022 Raeburn “High Flier” Pinot Noir ($33) is all about pure, juicy fruit: red raspberry and crushed strawberry, with a spicy accent. The wine has a silky texture and persistent finish. The High Flier is a vineyard selection; the winery’s standard pinot bottling, which I haven’t tasted, is less expensive.

   The 2021 Sonoma-Cutrer Pinot Noir ($36) – from a winery best known for its chardonnays – is darker and more structured, with raspberry, Bing cherry and baking spices. Although it’s a bigger style than the Raeburn, it’s still elegant, with nice freshness. It can often be found for less than $30. Sonoma-Cutrer also produces more expensive pinot cuvées, including the delicious “Les Plus Haut.”
