Wine of the Week: 2019 Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau Rosé

The third Thursday in November (this year, Nov. 21) always marks the arrival of Beaujolais nouveau, the first wine of the Beaujolais harvest. The occasion used to be marked with much hype and hoopla, but things have calmed down in recent years. By the new year, the year’s nouveau will mostly be a thing of the past.

Georges Duboeuf, by far the largest producer of Beaujolais, makes three versions of nouveau: Beaujolais nouveau, Beaujolais-Villages nouveau and a rosé version. As is the case with all Beaujolais reds, the wines are 100 percent gamay noir.

I found this year’s Duboeuf nouveau rosé to be especially tasty. It’s fresh and crisp, with racy cherry and raspberry flavors. At $13, it’s a good choice for a crowd and an excellent way to sample this year’s Beaujolais harvest.
